KHEN's 1st FULL DAY OF BROADCASTING.

On Saturday, Feb 1st 2003, KHEN presented its first full day of broadcasting featuring short samples of all the upcoming programming.

Here are some pictures and sounds of that day.

A view down F street, looking at Tenderfoot hill (note the "S" for Salida).

KHEN is just to the right of the photographer.

group cheering

Soon afterwards, everybody gathered to cheer.

Left to right: Mark Halstead (volunteer, computer guru, and my gracious host), Wendy
Chanden (board member & secretary), then Brent (board member, facility committee) and his wife Deb, Cathy Berg (board member & president), and Terry (DJ, board member & treasurer).
Jane is seated.

Cactus Jack

Jack (a.k.a. Cactus Jack), doing an informative bluegrass show.

Haven

Haven, playing her swing music. She also substituted for "the kids", by presenting some of the "Cruizin' Tunes" that the youngest DJs will be bringing to Salida.

Haven and Mark hosted me in their wonderful Victorian house while I was assembling KHEN's studios.

Lonnie and Phil

Lonnie and Phil bring their own stereo, so that they can play all their cassettes. They'll open up Sunday mornings with Gospel, followed by pop classical music. Lovely people!

Terry

Terry: treasurer, carpenter, DJ (a.k.a: Tony), next-door neighbor (the antenna is mounted on his roof) and all-around nice guy.

Installing a piano

Out of the blue, these supporters showed up with a piano for KHEN! At this rate, KHEN will get all the support it needs!

Bicycles in front of KHEN

Seven bicycles and no cars: now that's an environmental radio station!

 Antenna on top of KHEN

The antenna, mounted over Terry's roof. A bit low, but a least nobody can consider it an eyesore!
